Lorene F. Oehl, 94, of Oak Ridge passed away Thursday, Nov. 7, 2019, at Villas of Jackson in Jackson.
Lorene was born Jan. 10, 1925, in Gordonville, the fifth child to Albert and Frieda Bodenstein Rose. Her father died when she was young, and she grew up on a dairy farm run by her mother.
Lorene was a 1943 graduate of Jackson High School.
She married Marlen Oehl of Friedheim on Aug. 17, 1947, at Zion Lutheran Church of Gordonville, where she was also baptized and confirmed. After marriage, she and Marlen continued farming, first in Friedheim, then Oak Ridge. Marlen and Lorene were married 62 years, when he passed away Aug. 23, 2009.
Lorene and Marlen enjoyed taking bus tours to many states. They loved dancing with their close friends, and later in the evening, the group would play cards. After her husband passed away, she traveled several times to see her daughter in California, attended her granddaughter's wedding in Mexico, and also took trips to Michigan to see her granddaughter and great-grandchildren.
Lorene was a loving, devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who treasured her family. She enjoyed working on the farm, gardening, canning, cooking and baking for her family. After the work day ended, she loved sewing for her family in the evenings. Lorene supported Roberts 4-H Club, where her children were members.
A faithful member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Jackson, she attended the Ladies Aid and the Lutheran Women's Missionary League.
Lorene treasured watching her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren grow up. For the past two years, she enjoyed living at Villas of Jackson, where she made many friends, participated in activities and received loving care. Lorene will be missed by her family and friends.
Loving survivors include her children, Dr. Darlene (Alan) Jones of St. Charles, Missouri, Loretta (Ray) Falkner of LaJolla, California, and Doyle (Jane) Oehl of Oak Ridge; grandchildren, Allyson (Peter) Maxwell of Hope, Michigan, John (Teresa) Oehl of Oak Ridge and Maria (Brock) Allen of Jackson; and great-grandchildren, Lucy Oehl, Bennett Allen, Mason Maxwell, Calvin Maxwell, Kylie Oehl, Leo Allen and Emily Oehl. In addition, she is survived by her brother-in-law, Richard (June) Oehl of Friedheim, and many nieces and nephews.
Along with her parents and husband, Marlen, she was preceded in death by her sister, Albertine Gartung, and three brothers, Walter, Ervin and Ted Rose.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson and from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Jackson.
The funeral will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the church, with the Rev. Jason Shaw officiating. Burial will be at Russell Heights Cemetery in Jackson.
Memorials may be made to St. Paul Lutheran Church Radio Fund, Southeast Hospice or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
