Lonnie R. Moore, 61, of Millersville passed away Wednesday, June 1, 2011, at Southeast Hospital in Cape Girardeau.

He was born Dec. 21, 1949, in Cape Girardeau, to Truman E. and Verda M. Loos Moore. He and Sue Funderburk were married Aug. 5, 1972, at St. Gregory Church in St. Ann, Mo.

Lonnie was inducted into the U.S. Army on Sept. 11, 1969. He was a helicopter door gunner and spent nearly 12 months in Vietnam. He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Army Commendation Medal and Good Conduct Medal. He was honorably discharged April 14, 1971. Lonnie loved our great country and was a true patriot.

He was a deputy sheriff from 1982 to 1986. From 1987 to February 2011 he was a self-employed bail bondsman in Cape Girardeau County, working closely with county law enforcement.

He was a member of Caney Fork Baptist Church near Millersville, Westview Masonic Lodge 103 in Millersville, Elks Lodge 2652 in Jackson, Altenthal-Joerns American Legion Post 158 in Jackson and VFW Post 3838 in Cape Girardeau.

Survivors include his loving wife of nearly 39 years, Sue of Millersville; twin sister, Bonnie Johnston of Cape Girardeau; two brothers, Raymond (Laura) Moore of Jackson, Wayne (Mary) Moore of Cape Girardeau; a sister-in-law, Linda Wright of Clearwater, Fla.; several loving nephews and nieces; and a host of friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the chapel of McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson. An American Legion Honor Guard service will be held at 7.

The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Rocky Tallent officiating, assisted by Wayne Moore, Lonnie's brother. Interment will be in Caney Fork Cemetery with full military honors.

Memorials may take the form of contributions to Caney Fork Cemetery.
