DEXTER, Mo. -- Lola Slaughter Waters, 91, of Dexter died Friday, Nov. 1, 2002, at the Beverly Health and Rehab Center in Dexter.
She was born April 6, 1911, at Zalma, Mo., daughter of Leo and Phebe Sherrills Davis. She and Melvin Slaughter were married in 1929. He died June 17, 1986. She and Ben Waters were married April 14, 1988. He also preceded her in death.
She lived in Dexter since 1937. She worked at the Elder's Manufacturing Company for 25 years. Later, she and her husband owned and operated several restaurants in Dexter -- Lola's Cafe, Clubs Cafe, LaHub Cafe and Ketch-A-Bite Cafe. She was a member of the General Baptist Church in Zalma.
Survivors include two daughters, Juanita Shelton of Cape Girardeau and Myrtle Swallows of Dexter; one sister, Pat Gardener of St. Charles, Mo.; seven grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by five sisters and five brothers.
Friends may call after 10 a.m. at the Watkins and Sons Funeral Home in Dexter on Monday.
The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Monday at the funeral chapel, with Keith Garland officiating. Burial will be in Hagy Cemetery.
