BENTON, Mo. -- Lois Spalding, 89, daughter of the late Claude and Hattie Rebecca Brock Dirnberger, was born Oct. 26, 1932, in New Hamburg, Missouri, and departed her life Friday, Feb. 18, 2022, at the Lutheran Home in Cape Girardeau.
On Sept. 26, 1953, she was united in marriage to Joe "Amos" Spalding in New Hamburg. He preceded her in death Dec. 13, 1995.
She was a former employee of Missouri Division of Family Services in Cape and Scott counties. For many years, Lois and her husband were owners of Joe Spalding Trucking. She a member of the St. Denis Catholic Church in Benton.
Lois was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, Daughters American Revolution, Red Hat Society and Scott County Historical Society. She was very active and a lifelong resident of Benton.
Survivors include two sons, Joe (Betty) Spalding of Scott City and John (Lisa) Spalding of Benton; two daughters, Becky (Charles) Schwartz of Chaffee, Missouri, and Melissa (Jeff) Lee of Rogersville, Missouri; brother, Glen Dirnberger of Cape Girardeau; two sisters, Janet Vetter and Vera Henneman, both of Benton; 10 grandchildren, Joseph Spalding, Justin Spalding, Gavin Spalding, Suzanne Jackson, Stephen Schwartz, Gregory Schwartz, Jared Lee, Jordan Lee, Emily Woolf and Katie Cruz; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Besides her husband and parents, Lois was preceded in death three brothers, Richard, David and Andrew Dirnberger; and a great-granddaughter, Freya Elizabeth Woolf.
Visitation will be from 5 until 8 p.m. today in St. Denis Catholic Church in Benton.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the church with the Rev. Bala Swamy Govindu officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial be made to St. Denis School, St. Augustine School or St. Joseph School.
