Lois Lorene Prosser, 89, of Delta passed away Thursday, Jan. 21, 2010, at Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau after a long and courageous battle with cancer. She was born Sept. 20, 1920, near Himmel, Mo., daughter of Leslie and Edith Mann Medlin. She and Glen Prosser were married Jan. 24, 1942, in Ecorse, Mich. He preceded her in death May 18, 1998...

Lois Lorene Prosser, 89, of Delta passed away Thursday, Jan. 21, 2010, at Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau after a long and courageous battle with cancer.

She was born Sept. 20, 1920, near Himmel, Mo., daughter of Leslie and Edith Mann Medlin. She and Glen Prosser were married Jan. 24, 1942, in Ecorse, Mich. He preceded her in death May 18, 1998.

Lois attended schools in Swinton and Bell City, Mo. She worked a variety of jobs including at defense plants in Michigan during World War II and Florsheim Shoe factories in Chaffee, Mo., and Cape Girardeau. She served as legislative aide to congressman Bill Burlison eight years, and during this time she served as liaison to his district offices in Cape Girardeau, Crystal City, Malden and Poplar Bluff, Mo. She served as Democratic committeewoman for Welch Township (now Delta Precinct) 25 years.

She was a member of First Baptist Church of Delta. She was very proud of the presentation given to her in 2006 in recognition as a member of the church 50 years.

Lois was an expert seamstress. In earlier years she was active in the community and was a leader in sewing and cooking classes with 4-H youth, teacher with church GAs and vacation Bible school, and with Parent-Teachers Association. She was a member of the Homemakers Club.

Survivors include a daughter, Michal Sue "Mickey" Prosser-Burlison and son-in-law, Bill Burlison of rural Delta/Advance; two nephews, Jerry Andersen of Washington, Utah, Tom Andersen of Salem, Ore.; a favorite cousin, Shelby Mann Spears of Jackson; and many other relatives.

Lois was preceded in death by her parents, husband and two sisters, Evelyn Medlin and Iva Andersen.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Morgan Funeral Chapel in Advance.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the chapel, with the Rev. Eric Hodge officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant Grove Cemetery near Advance.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Baptist Church of Delta.
