Lois L. Niswonger, 84, of Cape Girardeau passed away Saturday, June 30, 2012, at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis.
She was born July 21, 1927, at Marble Hill, Mo., to Connel Bryan and Mabel Eugenia Luckey Welch. She and Lloyd T. Niswonger were married June 15, 1947, at Grace Methodist Church in Cape Girardeau. They celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary this year.
Lois was a graduate of Central High School. She was a clerk 28 years with Metropolitan Life Insurance, and retired to become a full-time grandmother in 1988.
She was a lifetime member of United Methodist Women at Grace United Methodist Church, where she also enjoyed being a member of Food, Fun and Fellowship and Thursday Luncheon. Lois volunteered as a Cub Scout leader and was a member of a traveling bowling league. In recent years she enjoyed playing dominoes with good friends.
Survivors include her husband; a son, Michael Niswonger of Cape Girardeau; a daughter, Amy (Kevin) Cain of Cape Girardeau; a brother, Bryan Welch of Tazewell, Tenn.; two sisters-in-law, Lorene Welch of Cape Girardeau and Carlyn Welch of Cullman, Ala.; two grandchildren, Justin (Carrie) Cain and Rachel (Zack) Long of Cape Girardeau; a great-grandson, Zander of Cape Girardeau and was eagerly awaiting the birth of twin great-grandchildren in November.
She was preceded in death by her parents and three brothers.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home.
The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Grace United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Tom Sullenger and the Rev. Jerry Statler officiating. Burial will be in Cape County Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to United Methodist Women at Grace United Methodist Church.
