Lois William Newman, 90, of Cape Girardeau, formerly of Sikeston, Mo., died Thursday, Jan. 30, 2014, at the Lutheran Home.
He was born Nov. 4, 1923, in Lilbourn, Mo., to Mode and Mary Landers Newman, and grew up in the Canalou, Mo., area.
In the early 1950s, he moved to Oran, Mo., to farm and later to Sikeston where he had farming interests, a vocation he enjoyed more than 50 years. He was a member of First Assembly of God Church in Cape Girardeau. An avid basketball fan, he loved attending college and high school games.
In May 2001 he married Naomi Atkinson in Cape Girardeau.
He is survived by his wife; a daughter and son-in-law, Marsha and David Hammock of Plano, Texas; three grandsons, Aaron (Jessica) Hammock of Plano, Andrew Hammock of Los Colinas, Texas, and Allen Hoggard of Helena, Mont.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by wife Opal Ling Newman; a daughter, Wanda Newman Hoggard; six brothers, Lloyd, Loren, Phillip, Bill, Clifford and Billy; and two sisters, Judy Lasters and Betty Scott.
Visitation will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Nunnelee Funeral Chapel in Sikeston.
The service will follow at 1:30 p.m., officiated by the Rev. Gary Brothers. Interment will be in Garden of Memories Cemetery in Sikeston.
Pallbearers will be nephews.
