PERRYVILLE, Mo. -- Lois M. Batjer Gahan Layton, 97, of Perryville died Saturday, May 4, 2002, at Perry County Nursing Home.
She was born May 26, 1904, in Abilene, Texas, daughter of W.F.D. and Lois Dunovant Batjer.
In her early days in Perry County, Layton was a home demonstration agent with the Extension Service of the University of Missouri and graduated from Southeast Missouri State Teachers' College.
A member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, Layton was also a 72-year member of the American Legion Auxiliary.
She and Dr. Edward J. Gahan were married July 15, 1930. He died March 10, 1961. She and Edwin J. Layton were married Feb. 2, 1966. He died Oct. 1, 1992.
Survivors include a son, John W. Gahan of Perryville; a daughter, Jane Batjer Gahan Ruhmkorff of Cincinnati, Ohio; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by three brothers, three sisters and one granddaughter.
Friends may call from 4 to 7:30 p.m. Monday and from 6:30 to 9:40 a.m. Tuesday at Young and Sons Funeral Home in Perryville.
Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, with the Rev. Kevin Fausz officiating. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery.
