MATTHEWS, Mo. -- Lois Hooks, 83, died Nov. 29, 2003, at Southeast Hospital in Cape Girardeau.
She was born July 14, 1920, in Humphries County, Tenn., daughter of the late Alvin R. and Ollie Winters Curtis. She and Joe Hooks were married June 3, 1950, in Senath, Mo.
Hooks was a retired schoolteacher from Matthews Elementary, where she taught first grade for most of her career. She was a member of the Primitive Baptist Church in Morehouse, Mo.
Survivors include her husband; two sons, David Hooks of Gordonville and Steve Hooks of Harlingen, Texas; eight brothers, Buel, Cleatus "Pete" and Gene Curtis of Matthews, Jerry Curtis of O'Fallon, Mo., J.H. Curtis of San Diego, Calif., Perry Curtis of Kingman, Ariz., and Nelson Curtis of Oran, Mo.; two sisters, Ruby Silverthorn of Sikeston and Barbara Lasters of Oran; and five grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother and a sister.
Friends may call from 5-8 p.m. today at Ponder Funeral Home in Sikeston. Funeral will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Kelley Grubbs will officiate, with burial in the Garden of Memories Cemetery in Sikeston.
