Lois V. "Ginger" Beaudean, 88, of Cape Girardeau died Thursday, July 31, 2008, at The Lutheran Home in Cape Girardeau.

She was born Jan. 20, 1920, in Salem, Ill., daughter of Guy Ezert and Lettie Ina (Minton) Smead. Her family soon moved to Cape Girardeau, where Lois attended Cape Girardeau Central High School and graduated in 1937. Following graduation, she became a licensed beautician working in Anna, Ill., and in Cape Girardeau. She and Louis Beaudean were married Oct. 6, 1941, in Cape Girardeau. He passed away March 27, 1997.

Two weeks after Louis and Lois were married, he left for service in World War II until 1945. During that time of separation, Lois, or "Ginger" as she was known to her family and friends, moved to California to help with the war effort. She lived with her sisters and worked at Douglas Aircraft Co. painting planes. Ginger will be remembered as an avid volunteer. She gave more than 900 hours of service to the veterans home, 9,000 hours to the Southeast Hospital Auxiliary, where she made and sold all kinds of crafts, and many hours to the Legion Auxiliary.

Ginger loved working in her yard, visiting with friends, spending time with her grandchildren, sewing and numerous other arts and crafts activities. Ginger collected angels, antiques and many other things. She was known for her German chocolate cake and walnut cake. She loved dogs and had a passion for fishing and the color red.

She was a member of Hanover Lutheran Church for 26 years.

She is survived by a daughter, Lynn (Clarence) Hoffman of Denison, Iowa; a son, Roger (Lynn) Beaudean of Morgan City, La.; a sister, Helen Hirsch of Long Beach, Calif.; four grandchildren, John (Joy) Hoffman of Whittier, Calif., Louis (Heatherlyn) Hoffman of Colorada Springs, Colo., Scott (Courtnie) Beaudean of Geismar, La.; Shane (Lauren) Beaudean and Stacy Beaudean, both of Thibodaux, La.; four great-grandchildren, Hanna Hoffman, Clifton Alexander Hoffman, Lakoda Hoffman and Cole Beaudean; a sister-in-law, Elsie Beaudean of Cape Girardeau; many nieces and nephews; and many great-nieces and great-nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and two sisters, Marylee and Ina.

Visitation will be from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. today at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Chapel.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the funeral chapel with the Rev. Douglas C. Breite officiating. Burial will be at Lorimier Cemetery in Cape Girardeau.

Memorials may be made to Hanover Lutheran Church, Trinity Lutheran School and the Lutheran Home.
