Liz Long

Helen Elizabeth "Liz" Long, 54, of Oak Ridge passed away Sunday, Aug. 19, 2012, at home, surrounded by her loving family.

She was born Dec. 4, 1957, in Little Rock, Ark., daughter of retired Air Force Maj. Donald A. St. Martin and Helen M. McClendon St. Martin. She and James E. Long Jr. were married Sept. 29, 1979.

Liz was a graduate of Jacksonville High School in Jacksonville, Ark. She received a bachelor of science degree in aerospace engineering at Wichita State University in Kansas, and master of science degrees in environmental engineering and civil engineering at South Dakota School of Mines in Rapid City.

She had worked for William A. Green & Associates in Malden, Mo., and Strickland Engineering in Jackson.

Liz was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Jackson, and a former member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Dexter, Mo.

Loving survivors include her husband, retired Air Force Lt. Deacon James E. Long Jr. of Oak Ridge; two daughters and a son-in-law, Air Force 1st Lt. Rachel Long, Navy Lt. Sarah Long Sparks and her husband Marine Corps Capt. James W. Sparks Jr.; a sister, Susan M. St. Martin; a brother, Donald A. St. Martin, both of Bentonville, Ark.; a brother-in-law, Randy Eisert of Oklahoma City; several nieces and nephews; and many dear friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Lynda C. Eisert.

Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson. Parish prayer service will be held at 7 p.m.

A memorial Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at Immaculate Conception Church, with the Rev. John Harth officiating. Interment will be at 11 a.m. Friday in the Missouri State Veterans Cemetery at Bloomfield, Mo.
