MOUNDS, Ill. -- Lista Elizabeth Lentz, 96, of Carbondale, Ill., formerly of Mounds, died Sunday, Aug. 13, 2006, at Oak Grove Rehabilitation and Care Center in Carbondale.
She was born Sept. 10, 1909, in Henderson, Ky., daughter of John and Zoe Hendrick Gardner. She married George Malcom Lentz, who preceded her in death.
Lentz was a graduate of Southern Illinois University, and attended a Casper, Wyo., university and Indiana University.
She taught high school in Pulaski and Alexander counties, and was principal at Karnak and Tamms schools. She also taught in military schools in Freising and Munich, Germany, as part of the Allied occupation after World War II.
Lentz was a longtime member of the United Methodist Church in Mounds, and past president and secretary of Mounds Women's Club.
Survivors include a son, Terry Lentz Sr. of Fort Wayne, Ind.; seven grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and five stepgrandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son and two sisters.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to service time today at Crain Funeral Home in Ullin, Ill.
The funeral will be at 1 p.m. today at the funeral home, with Pete Vinson officiating. Burial will be in Ullin Cemetery.
