Funeral service for Lionel N. Thornton, 1770 Bertling, will be held at 1 p.m. today at Ford and Sons Mt. Auburn Chapel. The Rev. Alvis Paul will officiate. Burial will be in Memorial Park, with graveside service by VFW Post 3838.
Thornton, 84, died Monday, Jan. 20, 1997, at Heartland Care and Rehab Center.
He was born Dec. 6, 1912, in Waverly, Tenn., son of H.R. and Minnie Curtis Thornton. He and Ival L. Seabaugh were married Oct. 30, 1969, in Cape Girardeau. She died in February 1982.
Thornton was a retired restaurant host. He was a member of Hobbs Chapel United Methodist Church, VFW Post 3838, Eagles Aerie 3775, Elks Lodge 639, all in Cape Girardeau, and American Legion Post 133 in Perryville. He served with the U.S. Air Force in Europe during World War II.
Survivors include a sister, Dorothy Street of Cape Girardeau; a stepdaughter, Nancy Swader of Cape Girardeau; and two stepgrandsons.
