Lindel F. Barks, 85, of Cape Girardeau passed away Wednesday, Nov. 8, 2017, at the Missouri Veterans Home.
He was born July 21, 1932, in Perryville, Missouri, to Pirl and Opal Fadler Barks. He and Margaret Lucas were married June 9, 1957, in Festus, Missouri.
Lindel was a graduate of Jackson High School. He was a charter member of Bethany Baptist Church in Cape Girardeau.
He was an acting motor pool sergeant with the U.S. Army during the Korean War and was in Germany in 1953 and 1954.
He was shop manager at Auto Tire and Parts in Cape Girardeau for more than 25 years, and in 1984 started Barks Equipment and Supplies and ran it until December 2016.
Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Margaret Barks of Cape Girardeau; daughter, Melinda Hindman of Jackson; son, Steven L. Barks of Los Alamos, New Mexico; three sisters, Wilma (Kelly) Crites of Jackson, Margie Crawford of Jackson and Betty (Gerry) Manderscheid of Tucson, Arizona; one brother, Melvin “Bud” (Jeanny) Barks of Cape Girardeau; and four grandchildren, Thomas, Trisha and Travis Barks and Christopher Hindman.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Harold Dean Barks; cousin, Pervis Barks, who lived with the Barks family growing up; brothers-in-law, Loy “Junior” Yamnitz and Elbert Crawford; and a daughter-in-law, Sheila Craft Barks.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home.
Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, with the Revs. Shawn Wasson and Donny Ford officiating. Burial with full military honors will follow at Cape County Memorial Park Cemetery.
