Surrounded by her loving family, Linda K. Finney, 74, of Jackson, formerly of Cape Girardeau, passed away Sunday, Dec. 1, 2019, at the home of her daughter and son-in-law in Jackson.
She was born Jan. 17, 1945, in St. Charles, Missouri, to Rex and Lydia Craft Shimkoik. She was a 1963 graduate of Chaney High School in Joliet, Illinois. Linda was first married to Vince Fernandez. They had two children, Keith and Krissi. She and John Finney were married Oct. 25, 1997. John passed away March 17, 2006. Although the years they shared were too few, together Linda and John enjoyed traveling in the U.S. and entertaining and cooking for their family and many friends.
Linda worked at Havco and Gilster Mary Lee. She then worked 22 years in customer service and management for Rhodes Convenience Stores on William Street and North Kingshighway in Cape Girardeau. During her employment at Rhodes, Linda made countless friends and often shared her famous homemade tacos with them.
Linda was a member of Shawnee Hills Baptist Church in Jackson and a former member of New Bethel Baptist Church near Pocahontas.
Loving survivors include two children and their spouses, Keith and Denise Fernandez of Columbia, Missouri, and Krissi and Jeff Dye of Jackson; five grandchildren, Jacob Mattingly of St. Louis, Emma Fernandez of Columbia and Kaitlyn, Madison and Abby Dye of Jackson; a sister, Betty Rinkenberger of Imperial, Missouri; a niece, Kathie Shedron of Brownsvlle, Texas; and a nephew, Jeff Rinkenberger of Hillsboro, Missouri.
She was preceded in death by her husband of eight years, John Finney; her parents; a brother-in-law, Bob Rinkenberger; and a nephew, Ed Rinkenberger.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson.
The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Don Estes officiating. Burial will follow at New Lorimier Cemetery in Cape Girardeau.
Memorials may take the form of contributions to the Alzheimer's Association.
