Lillis Bechel

Lillis Rosely Bechel, 90, of Ellisville, Mo., passed peacefully into the arms of God Monday, Jan. 3, 2011. She had resided at Gambrill Gardens the past four years, after moving from her home on Camellia Drive in Cape Girardeau.

She was born Feb. 22, 1920, in Egypt Mills, daughter of Lewis Sherman and Christine Elizabeth Baker Kistner. She and Willard Marion Bechel were married Jan. 7, 1937, in Poplar Bluff, Mo.

Mrs. Bechel was employed by International Shoe Co., retiring in 1967. She later worked with her husband at the car dealership they owned, Cape Auto Mart.

She attended Trinity Lutheran School, where she was confirmed, and later became a member of Trinity Lutheran Church. She later attended Hobbs Chapel, where she was a member of United Methodist Women. She was a past member of Cape Evening Exchange Club Women's Organization.

"Friends that knew me best called me Granny. I was called that endearing name by my grandchildren, great-grandchildren, their friends and mine."

She was preceded in death by her husband, Willard, in March 2002.

Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Darlene and Bob Williams of Cape Girardeau; five grandchildren, Kim and David Cappetta, their daughters, Elizabeth and Alexandra of St. Albans, Mo.; Brad Williams and children, Heather and Holden of Columbia, Mo.; Robin Williams and daughter, Jessica Mancini of St. Louis; Chris and Brenda Williams and children, Kelli and Adam of Patton, Mo.; Billy Williams of Cape Girardeau; three great-great-grandchildren, Alexis, Caleb and Isabella Rose.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to service time Wednesday at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. at the funeral home, with the Rev. Tom Ressler officiating. Entombment will be in Cape County Memorial Park Mausoleum.
