LILLIE SMITH

JACKSON -- Lillie B. Smith, 96, of Jackson died Thursday, Aug. 29, 1996, at Jackson Manor.

She was born April 18, 1900, in Bollinger County, daughter of Daniel and Lucy Gwin Newell. She and George A. Smith were married Feb. 14, 1916. He died Oct. 16, 1967.

Smith lived in the Old Salem community 41 years, and the past four years at Jackson Manor. She was a member of Christ Gospel Church at Millersville.

Survivors include three sons, Wilburn and Marshall Smith of Oak Ridge, Jessie Smith of Marble Hill; three daughters, Fredia Carnell of Millersville, Betty Williamson and Edna Seabaugh of Jackson; a brother, Robert Newell of Oak Ridge; a sister, Elizabeth Welker of Millersville; 35 grandchildren; 69 great-grandchildren; and 59 great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a son, three daughters, five grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and two brothers.

Friends may call at McCombs Funeral Home in Jackson from 4-8 p.m. today.

Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home, with the Rev. James W. Brown officiating. Burial will be in Old Salem Cemetery.
