MILL CREEK, Ill. -- Funeral service for Lester "Peck" Wheaton of Mill Creek will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at Hileman and Parr Funeral Home in Jonesboro. The Rev. Herb Wilson will officiate, with burial in St. John's Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home after 5 p.m. today.

Wheaton, 84, died Wednesday, Aug. 14, 1996, at his home.

He was born Jan. 29, 1912, in Pulaski, son of Harrison and Vi Arnold Wheaton. He and Eula Dodson were married July 1, 1939, in Jackson, Mo.

Wheaton was a crain operator at Granite City Steel, retiring in 1974. He was a member of Carroll Foster VFW Post in Anna, Jonesboro Masonic Lodge, and Odd Fellows. He was a veteran of the Korean War.

Survivors include his wife; a son, Gary Wheaton of Mill Creek; a daughter, Gloria Benson of Mill Creek; four sisters, Faye Childers and Ida Childers of Elgin, Dorothy Angele of Brookport, Florence Smith of St. Louis; a brother, Luther Wheaton of Goreville; five grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by four sisters and four brothers.
