PERRYVILLE -- Lester J. Weinkein, 87, of Perryville died Tuesday, March 2, 1999, at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.
He was born May 28, 1911, at Highland, son of Felix A. and Rosa Mary Miget Weinkein. He and Aileen M. Stortz were married May 10, 1941, in Perryville.
Weinkein retired as a machinist at McDonnell Douglas, and later worked at Miller Family Funeral Home. He was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church and American Legion.
He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, and received the Purple Heart for injuries received during the sinking of the USS Little.
Survivors include his wife; a son, John Weinkein of Nevada, Iowa; a sister, Gladys Fairchild of St. Louis; and a grandson.
He was preceded in death by four brothers and two sisters.
Friends may call at Miller Family Funeral Home from 3-9 p.m. Friday, and Saturday from 6:30-9:50 a.m. There will be a parish wake at 7 p.m. Friday, and American Legion service at 7:30. The rosary will be recited at 9 a.m. Saturday.
Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Vincent's Church, with the Rev. Kevin P. Fausz officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery at Highland.
