Lester Ruffner Pollmann, 93, of Owensville, Mo., passed away Tuesday, May 14, 2013, at Auburn Creek Assisted Living in Cape Girardeau. Lester Ruffner Pollmann, 93, of Owensville, Mo., passed away Tuesday, May 14, 2013, at Auburn Creek Assisted Living in Cape Girardeau.

He was born March 6, 1920, in Maplewood, Mo., to Fred and Rose Ruffner Pollmann. He and Ethel Schulte were married June 19, 1948, at St. James United Church of Christ in Charlotte, Mo.

Lester served his country in the United States Army during World War II and was awarded five Bronze Stars.

He was a member of VFW Post 6133 and a 50-year member of Owensville Lions Club, served two terms on Owensville City Council and served as Owensville city collector. He owned and operated Owensville Auto Body more than 30 years. He enjoyed golf and being the course greenskeeper.

Survivors include a daughter, Debra Phillips and husband Robert of Cape Girardeau; a sister, Norma Cooper of Niceville, Fla.; and a grandson, Kent Phillips of Cape Girardeau.

He was preceded in death by his wife.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. today at Gottenstroeter Funeral Home in Owensville, with the Rev. Christopher Ross officiating. Burial will be in Countryside Memorial Gardens in Owensville.
