Lester E. Mayfield, 78, of Scott City passed away Sunday, Aug. 21, 2022, at Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.
He was born Nov. 2, 1943, in Patton, Missouri, to Melvin C. and Mahala C. Welker. He and Margaret Ann Craft were married May 29, 1977, in Fredericktown, Missouri.
Lester worked at AG in Marble Hill, Missouri. He worked as a butcher for IGA in Scott City, retiring after 48 years of employment.
He was a member of Bethany Baptist Church in Cape Girardeau.
Loving survivors include his wife of 45 years, Margaret Mayfield of Scott City; a brother, Donald (Marlene) Mayfield of Patton; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and three siblings, Clarence Mayfield, Mable (Golden) Patton and Verla (George) Sutton.
Visitation is from 10 to 11 a.m., Wednesday at McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson. The Rev. Donny Ford will conduct the funeral service at 11 a.m. Wednesday, at the funeral home. Interment will follow at New Bethel Cemetery near Pocahontas.
Memorials may take the form of contributions to New Bethel Cemetery Fund.
