Lester L. Harris, 95, of Fruitland, died Nov. 28, 2021, at the Missouri Veterans Home in Cape Girardeau.

Lester was born Oct. 22, 1926, in Cape Girardeau to the late William and Virgie Cobble Harris. He married Patsy Jean Fitzgerald on June 3, 1950. She preceded him on Nov. 10, 1992.

He attended Cape Girardeau Central High School before serving in the U.S. Army during World War II. Lester worked for Southwestern Bell, retiring after 37 years with the company.

Lester is survived by five children, Sandy (Richard) Lyke, William "Pete" (Debbie) Harris, Lester "Skip" (Jean) Harris, Leslie Rodgers and Gerri Adams; 10 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren; and a niece, Christine (Dick) Linville.

In addition to his wife and parents he was preceded by two sisters, Thelma Sides and Eileen Novak; a nephew, Ervin (Junior) Emrick; and a son-in-law, Joe Adams.

A graveside service will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday at New Salem Cemetery near Daisy. The Rev Donny Ford will officiate and full military honors will be performed.

Services were under the care of McCombs Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau.
