MARBLE HILL, Mo. -- Lester H. Barks, 85, of Marble Hill passed away Monday, Dec. 19, 2016, at the Landmark Hospital in Cape Girardeau. He was born July 12, 1931, in Lutesville, Missouri, son of Jess H. and Pearl A. Davault Barks. He and Ima Jo Green were united in marriage Nov. 2, 1951...

MARBLE HILL, Mo. -- Lester H. Barks, 85, of Marble Hill passed away Monday, Dec. 19, 2016, at the Landmark Hospital in Cape Girardeau.

He was born July 12, 1931, in Lutesville, Missouri, son of Jess H. and Pearl A. Davault Barks. He and Ima Jo Green were united in marriage Nov. 2, 1951.

Lester and Ima Jo owned and operated the Sunset Flower Shop for 36 years. He was also a farmer.

He was a member of the New Salem Baptist Church, where he served as head deacon, Sunday-school teacher and church treasurer.

He is survived by his wife, Ima Jo Barks of Marble Hill; sons, Gary Barks of St. Charles, Missouri, and Larry Barks of Jackson; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Preceding him in death were his parents and two brothers.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the New Salem Bus Ministry.

Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. today at the Liley Funeral Home in Marble Hill.

Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the New Salem Baptist Church, with the Rev. Randy Poole officiating. Burial will follow in the Bollinger County Memorial Park Cemetery near Marble Hill.
