Lessie Nelson, 86, of Cape Girardeau, longtime owner of People's Cafe, died Friday, Oct. 20, 1995, at Southeast Missouri Hospital.
She was born Oct. 22, 1909, in Biggers, Ark., daughter of John and Diana Foster. She and J.T. Nelson were married in 1942 in Jackson.
The couple owned and operated People's Cafe in Cape Girardeau for 33 years. She retired in 1990.
She was a member of the New Bethel Missionary Baptist Church in Cape Girardeau.
She is survived by her husband, three sons, Joe Nelson of Jackson, Miss., Lewis Nelson of Cape Girardeau and Douglas Nelson of Chicago; a daughter, Mary Lou Reddin of Chicago; 12 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
A daughter preceded in death.
Friends may call Monday from 6 to 9 p.m. at the New Bethel Missionary Baptist Church in Cape Girardeau.
Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the church, with the Rev. Johnny Thomas officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery in Cape Girardeau.
