Leslie D. "Jim" Hoover, 67, 1956 Briarwood, died Wednesday, Sept. 4, 1991, at his home. He was born June 7, 1924, at Greenbriar, son of Joseph L. and Lottie Carlton Hoover. He and Grace Virginia Richmond were married Aug. 22, 1948, at Advance. Hoover attended the University of Missouri at Columbia. He worked at Skelgas in Sikeston, and then moved to Advance where he was vice president of Richmond Hardware and Lumber Co. from 1950-76...

Leslie D. "Jim" Hoover, 67, 1956 Briarwood, died Wednesday, Sept. 4, 1991, at his home.

He was born June 7, 1924, at Greenbriar, son of Joseph L. and Lottie Carlton Hoover. He and Grace Virginia Richmond were married Aug. 22, 1948, at Advance.

Hoover attended the University of Missouri at Columbia. He worked at Skelgas in Sikeston, and then moved to Advance where he was vice president of Richmond Hardware and Lumber Co. from 1950-76.

He purchased Ward Motor Co. in 1976 and operated it until retiring in 1980. He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, and was assistant scout master of its Boy Scout troop many years.

Hoover was a volunteer at Eldercare and Elderhostle at Southeast Missouri State University, member of Advance Masonic Lodge, and Shriners in St. Louis.

He was a technical sergeant with the U.S. Army during World War II. He served in the European Theater and received the Silver Star.

Survivors include his wife; a son, Joseph L. Hoover of Cape Girardeau; a daughter, Susan Mitten of Wilton, Conn.; his mother of Advance; five grandsons, Trae, Blaine and Kyle Mitten of Wilton, Joseph A. and Jonathan Hoover of Cape Girardeau.

He was preceded in death by a brother.

Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Grace Church. The Rev. Ernest Swartz will officiate, with burial in Morgan Memorial Park at Advance.

Friends may call at Ford and Sons Mt. Auburn Chapel from 4-8 p.m. today.
