Leslie D. "Les" Carlton, 61, of Gordonville passed away Monday, Sept. 15, 2008, at his home.
He was born May 11, 1947, in Cape Girardeau, son of Clinton and Shirley Whitehead Carlton. He and Judy Fisher were married Dec. 27, 1969.
Les graduated from Central High School in 1965, and earned a degree in accounting from Southeast Missouri State University in 1970.
He served in the Missouri National Guard from 1966 to 1972 with a term of active duty in California in 1967.
Les was a member of Gordonville Area Volunteer Fire Department for over 15 years and was also a member of Bishop Timon Council 6405 Knights of Columbus in Jackson.
He was service manager 35 years at Wiethop Truck Sales in Cape Girardeau. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Church in Jackson since 1970.
Les had a love of the outdoors and enjoyed fishing and hunting. He took great pleasure in entertaining friends and family and was known for his cooking.
Loving survivors include his wife, Judy; two daughters, Christy (Keith) Brugger of Jackson, Angie Carlton of Atlanta; a son, Clint Carlton of Cape Girardeau; two granddaughters, Hannah and Emma Brugger; his parents, Clinton and Shirley Carlton of Zalma, Mo.; two brothers, Roger (Debbie) Carlton, Steve Carlton of Zalma, Mo.; a sister, Sharon (Larry) Greynolds of Paw Paw, Mich.; and mother-in-law, Irene Fisher of Gordonville.
He was preceded in death by his father-in-law, Elmer J. Fisher.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at McCombs Funeral Home in Jackson. Parish prayers will be at 6:30 p.m. with the Knights of Columbus rosary at 7.
The funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Immaculate Conception Church, with the Rev. John Harth officiating. Interment will follow in Cape County Memorial Park in Cape Girardeau with military honors.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society's Relay For Life, c/o Cape County Relay For Life.
