SIKESTON, Mo. -- Leroy Wamble, 85, of Sikeston died Friday, Sept. 22, 2000, at Missouri Delta Medical Center in Sikeston. He was born July 19, 1915, in Essex, Mo., son of Charles Franklin and Minnnie A. English Wamble. He and Mary Lou Brisendine were married Jan. 22, 1946...

SIKESTON, Mo. -- Leroy Wamble, 85, of Sikeston died Friday, Sept. 22, 2000, at Missouri Delta Medical Center in Sikeston.

He was born July 19, 1915, in Essex, Mo., son of Charles Franklin and Minnnie A. English Wamble.

He and Mary Lou Brisendine were married Jan. 22, 1946.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a staff sergeant and a member of the 16th Armored Division, and fought in battles in central Europe and was awarded a Bronze Star.

He had worked as a machinist for the American Fixture Company in St. Louis for 20 years and as a security guard at First National Bank in St. Louis for 18 years. He retired in 1980 and moved to Sikeston.

He was a member of First Baptist Church in Sikeston and a member of Henry Meldrum American Legion Post #114.

Survivors include his wife; a son, Thomas Lee Wamble of St. Charles, Mo.; a daughter, Linda Lou Wamble of San Antonio, Texas; two sisters, Emma Johnson and Mary Crowley, both of Sikeston; and three grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by four brothers and a sister.

Friends may call after noon Monday at Nunnelee Funeral Chapel in Sikeston.

Funeral will be at 2 p.m., Monday at the funeral home, with Dr. Jim Guffie officiating. Burial will be in Garden of Memories Cemetery in Sikeston.
