Leroy "Rip" Oberle, 85, of Cape Girardeau died Monday, June 20, 2011, at his home.

He was born May 28, 1926, in Ste. Genevieve, Mo., to Julius and Josephine Oberle. He and Doris Braun were married Sept. 21, 1949.

Oberle was employed 37 years as a supervisor at Southwestern Bell, retiring in 1983.

Rip was a proud veteran of World War II, serving as a member of the U.S. Navy in the South Pacific as a gunner/cook aboard numerous PT boats.

He was a member of Knights of Columbus, VFW, Telephone Pioneers of America and St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church.

Survivors include his loving wife, Doris; a daughter, Lisa Oberle (Jay Satterfield) of Juneau, Alaska; two sons, Chris (Robin) Oberle of Cape Girardeau, Jeff (Barbara) Oberle of St. Louis; eight grandchildren, Carrie Oberle, Aaron (Brandi) Oberle, Zori Oberle, Zoza Oberle, Rodney (Melissa) Seiler, Rosanna Seiler, Robert and Rian Miles; four great-grandchildren; a sister, Dottie Mae (Kenny) Rehm of Ste. Genevieve; nieces, nephews and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Terry Oberle in 1974; a great-grandson, Rhyan; and a brother, Robert Oberle.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Crain Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Vincent's Church, with the Rev. Dave Hulshof officiating. Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery.
