Leroy Stephen Laurentius, 70, of Cape Girardeau died Wednesday, May 3, 2000, at St. Francis Medical Center.

He was born May 3, 1930, at Biehle, son of Stephen and Theresa Lee Laurentius. He and Marie Schabbing were married Oct. 10, 1964, in Cape Girardeau.

Laurentius had lived in Cape Girardeau since 1964. He was a construction laborer and had worked for Drury Companies, Kiefner Brothers, and city of Cape Girardeau, retiring in 1995.

He was a member of St. Mary's Cathedral, Knights of Columbus, and Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Laurentius served in the U.S. Army from December 1952 to September 1954. He received the Combat Infantry Badge, Korean Service Medal with Bronze Star, United Nations Service Medal and National Defense Service Medal.

Survivors include his wife; a son, Donald Laurentius of Cape Girardeau; two brothers, Elmer Laurentius of Cape Girardeau, James Laurentius of Perryville; two sisters, Leona Propst of Bridgeton, and Betty Jones of Jackson.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, and two sisters.

Friends may call at Ford and Sons Mt. Auburn Chapel from 4-8 p.m. today. Parish prayers will be at 7, immediately followed by Knights of Columbus rosary by Council 1111.

Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary's Cathedral. The Rev. Randy Tochtrop will officiate. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, with graveside rites by VFW Post 3838.
