CAIRO, Ill. -- Leonard E. Wilson, 79, of Cairo died Monday, April 28, 1997, at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.
He was born July 5, 1917, in Bertrand, son of Edwin and Ida Winders Wilson.
Wilson had worked at the U.S. Postal Service in Cairo 35 years. He was a member of First Christian Church, IOOF Lodge in Lincoln, Rebekah Lodge in Metropolis, Cairo VFW Post 2649, American Legion in Cairo, and Disabled American Veterans.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, and received a Purple Heart.
Survivors include his wife, Lenora; two sons, Alvin and James Wilson of Cairo; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Friends may call at Barkett Funeral Home in Cairo after 4 p.m. Wednesday.
Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Richard Pigg officiating. Burial will be in Spencer Heights Cemetery at Mounds.
