ANNISTON -- Leonard Peck Thurman, 90, of Anniston died Monday, May 24, 1999, at Marion VA Medical Center.
He was born Aug. 5, 1908, in Anniston, son of Golder and Annie Chambers Thurman. He and Marguerite Barnhill were married Aug. 25, 1929, at Charleston.
Thurman lived in Mississippi County most of his life. He retired as an auditor with the state of Missouri, working in the Gasoline and Income Tax Division.
He was inducted into the Southeast Missouri Amateur Baseball Hall of Fame in November 1979. He served with the U.S. Navy in the South Pacific during World War II.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Gary Thurman of Oak Ridge; a daughter, Joanie VanLandingham of Danville, Calif.; a sister, Nadine Neal of St. Louis; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, a granddaughter, a great-granddaughter, three sisters, and a brother.
Friends may call at Shelby Funeral Home in East Prairie after 5 p.m. today.
Graveside service will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Anniston Cemetery, with Martin Lucas officiating.
