Leonard Edward Pfeiffer, 88, of Jackson died Thursday, Aug. 6, 2020, at his home.
He was born Oct. 14, 1931, in Shawneetown to Oswald Arthur and Ella Lydia Oswald Pfeiffer. He and Dorothy Ruth Eggers were married July 31, 1954.
He served in the Air Force as military police. After completing Air Police training in Camp Gordon, Georgia, he served a tour of duty in French Morocco during the Korean conflict. He was then transferred to Neah Bay, Washington, where he was later honorably discharged.
For more than 40 years he was owner/operator of his own trucking company. After he retired from trucking, he enjoyed being a charter bus driver. He drove for Eggemeyer Transportation and later Southwestern Illinois Bus Co.
He was a member of New McKendree United Methodist Church in Jackson and Altenthal-Joerns American Legion Post No. 158.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Ruth Pfeiffer of Jackson; daughter, Linda (Jerry) Mowery of Jackson; grandchildren, Christopher (Libby) Leimer and Caroline (Robert) Thornburgh; and great-grandchildren, Brayden and Quinton Thornburgh and Madeleine Leimer.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Harold Pfeiffer; and sisters, Verna Schade and Helen Hecht.
A graveside service will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Russell Heights Cemetery in Jackson, with the Rev. Jimmie Corbin officiating.
