Leonard Charles "Sonny" Leible Jr., son of the late Leonard Charles Sr. and Francis Hahn Leible, was born Jan. 7, 1951, in Chaffee and departed his life Wednesday, Feb. 21, 2024, at Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau, with family by his side, at the age of 73.

Sonny was a self-employed contractor in the Scott County and Cape Girardeau area for several years. Prior to his retirement, he held positions as construction superintendent at Overcash-Goodman, Trueman and Associates and Red Roof Inn, where he built many nursing home facilities and hotels throughout the United States, as well as an auto dealership for former auto racing driver and current team owner Bobby Rahal. Sonny assisted in construction of Bill Emerson Memorial Bridge and was the founder and previous owner of Frisco’s Bar in Chaffee. He was a member of St. Ambrose Catholic Church in Chaffee.

Sonny was also a member of WarChild Riding Club of Chaffee and was the head of the club’s advisory board. He built the band stage and pavilion at the rally grounds and helped a great deal with getting the WarChild clubhouse operational. He was proud and always excited about the work and support WarChild does for children and veterans.

“Sonny was always there when something needed done, no matter how much he hurt,” said Stan Wicks, WarChild president.
