Leonard Dunning Jr.

Leonard Dunning Jr., 84, of Delta died Monday, Sept. 26, 2011, at Chaffee Nursing Center in Chaffee, Mo.

He was born Dec. 9, 1926, in Dupo, Ill., to Leonard A. and Lucille Williams Dunning Sr. He and Betty Jo Gilder were married May 22, 1948, at Delta. She died May 29, 2009.

Dunning was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.

He was employed by the Missouri State Highway Department, retiring in 1991. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Delta.

Survivors include three daughters, Cindy Jo (Dallis) Ladd and Linda Gail (Michael) Hornbuckle of Delta, Nancy Ann ((John) Simminger of Cape Girardeau; a son, Greg (Sandy) Dunning of Delta; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife and an infant son.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. today at First Baptist Church in Delta, with the Rev. Eric Hodges officiating. Burial will be at 1 p.m. in Missouri State Veterans Cemetery at Bloomfield with full military honors by Missouri Honors Team.

Ford and Sons Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
