Leona dedicated her life to God and her family as a homemaker. She was a loving wife, mother of five sons, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
Mrs. McKeon was born Jan. 14, 1908, in Potosi, Wis., to Charles and Elizabeth Gerhart Slater. She married Daniel J. McKeon May 3, 1927, in Dubuque, Iowa. She and her late husband, Daniel, were married nearly 71 years. He died April 25, 1998.
Leona was a member of St. Paul the Apostle Parish more than 60 years, and an active member of the Altar and Rosary Society and Catholic Women's League.
Leona was active in the St. Paul's PTA and St. Ambrose Academy Mother's Guild.
Leona lived in the same house on College Avenue nearly 60 years. She loved flowers, especially roses. Her garden was admired and enjoyed by her friends, neighbors, and even passers-by who stopped to inquire about a particular rose or plant. She loved to correspond -- sending letters, birthday cards and anniversary cards to her extended family and her many friends.
