Leona F. Koeppel

Leona F. Koeppel, 90, formerly of Jackson, passed away Thursday, Feb. 22, 2007, at the Lutheran Home in Cape Girardeau where she had been a resident for over six years.

She was born Sept. 2, 1916, in Pocahontas, daughter of Henry and Emma Hoehl Wallmann.

Leona attended grade school at New Wells and was baptized and confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church at New Wells. During her childhood years she was a member of St. John Lutheran Church at Pocahontas and had been a member of Zion Lutheran Church of Gordonville since 1948. She resided in Gordonville for many years before moving to Jackson.

For a number of years she worked with the family at the former Koeppel Service Station and she also worked with her sister and brother-in-law at the former Ray's Place, both in Gordonville. She was a house-keeper at Southeast Missouri State University in Cape Girardeau, and then did private home care for the elderly in Jackson. She enjoyed gardening and cooking for her family and friends.

Loving survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, George "Butch" and Virgie Koeppel of Jackson; a daughter and special friend, Becky Slay and Terry Camp; a grandson, Chris Koeppel of Jackson; his special friend, Jinger Sachse and her son, Tyler; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by five brothers and two sisters.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 25, 2007, at McCombs Funeral Home in Jackson, and from 9:30 a.m. to service time Monday, Feb. 26, at Zion Lutheran Church in Gordonville.

Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Feb. 26, 2007, at Zion Lutheran Church with the Revs. Wayne Schwiesow, Donald Loesch and Karl Leeman officiating.

Burial will be in Zion Lutheran Cemetery in Gordonville.

Memorials may be made to Zion Lutheran Church in Gordonville and Saxony Lutheran High School.
