Leon Givens, 81, of Cape Girardeau died Thursday, March 26, 1998, at Southeast Missouri Hospital.
He was born Oct. 29, 1916, in Cape Girardeau, son of Ed and Martha Jane Morrison Givens. He and Sue Cathleen DeJournett were married March 26, 1971, at Allenville.
Givens was a welder at Missouri Dry Dock, retiring in 1981. He lived at Allenville most of his life, moving to Cape Girardeau in 1971. He was a member of Allenville Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife; seven sons, James Givens of Allenville, Jerry Givens of Scott City, Charles Givens and Darrell Underwood of Cape Girardeau, Larry and David Underwood of Jackson, Gary Underwood of Crump; eight daughters, Martha Dunn and Lorine Welker of Allenville, Stella Taylor of Scott City, Debbie Anglin of Chaffee, Carolyn Allbritton, Debbie Riemann and Lisa Dillingham of Cape Girardeau, Sandy Housley of Joplin.
Also surviving are a brother, Rodney Givens of Frohna; a sister, Lois Benting of Ashland, Neb.; 33 grandchildren; and 29 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, a grandson, three sisters, and two brothers.
Friends may call at Ford and Sons Mt. Auburn Chapel from 4-8 p.m. today.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at the chapel, with the Rev. David Stewart officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park.
