Wilbur "Leon" Calvin, 82, of Cape Girardeau died Friday, Dec. 13, 2019, at his home.
He was born May 15, 1937, in Cairo, Illinois, to Wilbur and Eunice Hafford Calvin. He and Carole Marie Halter were married April 11, 1964, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Charleston, Missouri.
He served in the Army National Guard.
He was a member of Old St. Vincent's Catholic Church in Cape Girardeau. He attended University of Missouri at Rolla and proudly played football for the Miners. He was also a member of Pipefitters Union Local 184 in Paducah, Kentucky, and a long-time member of the Elks Club. Leon was a member of River Valley Carvers Club. He loved hunting and fishing and was a sports fan all his life. He was an avid golfer and was a long-time member of Kimbeland Country Club. He was an avid archer and he and Carole enjoyed shooting at tournaments around the area for many years.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Craig Calvin of Perryville, Missouri, and Michael (Marjorie) Calvin of Clinton Corners, New York; and three grandchildren, Cassondra Calvin of Perryville and Ashley and Brett Calvin of Clinton Corners.
Visitation will be from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau.
Memorial Mass will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Old St. Vincent's Catholic Church in Cape Girardeau, with the Rev. Allan Saunders officiating. Interment will be at a later date at Cape County Memorial Park.
Memorial contributions may be given to Old St. Vincent's Catholic Church in downtown Cape.
