Leon Joseph Blattel, 95, of Cape Girardeau died Friday, Sept. 29, 2023, at Lutheran Home.

He was born June 27, 1928, in Ancell, Missouri, to William F. and Elizabeth M. Seyer Blattel. He and Anna C. Dyer were married Nov. 12, 1949, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Fornfelt. She preceded him in death Aug. 23, 2015.

Leon worked for Southwestern Bell Telephone Co. for 35 years. He enjoyed retirement for 37 years, traveling with his wife and becoming a model train enthusiast. You could find him every Saturday morning at Sandy's Place. His homemade chocolate candies were loved by all.

He was a proud member of the Naval Reserve. He was also a lifelong member of Knights of Columbus in Cape Girardeau.

He was a member of St. Mary's Cathedral in Cape Girardeau.

Survivors include two sons, Michael (Teresa) Blattel of Cape Girardeau and Kenneth (Amy) Blattel of Scott City; five granddaughters, Tara (Francis) Alvarez, Tracy (Nick) Dannenmueller, Sara (Michael) Vandeven, Emily (Jared) Weiss and Katie (Chris) Conrad; nine great-grandchildren, Mavis and Julian Alvarez, Devin Dannenmueller, Abram and Calvin Vandeven, Colton, Collin and Carter Weiss and Lily Conrad.

Leon was preceded in death by his parents; wife; son, Steven Blattel; two brothers, Theon and Paul Blattel; an infant brother; and five sisters, Alvina, Marie, Dorothy, Virginia and Clara.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, Oct. 2, at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau. Parish prayers will be at 6:15 p.m., with Knights of Columbus rosary immediately following.

Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 3, at St. Mary's Cathedral in Cape Girardeau, with the Rev. Allan Saunders officiating. Burial will be at St. Mary's Cemetery in Cape Girardeau.

Memorial contributions may be given to St. Mary's Cathedral, 615 William St., Cape Girardeau, MO 63703.
