LEOPOLD, Mo. -- Leola Bernadetta Tenholder, 82, of Leopold died Monday, April 26, 2004, at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau. She was born Sept. 20, 1921, at Leopold, daughter of Martin P. and Johannah A. Vandeven Tenholder. Tenholder received bachelor's and master's degrees from DePaul University, and received a nursing diploma in 1946...

LEOPOLD, Mo. -- Leola Bernadetta Tenholder, 82, of Leopold died Monday, April 26, 2004, at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.

She was born Sept. 20, 1921, at Leopold, daughter of Martin P. and Johannah A. Vandeven Tenholder.

Tenholder received bachelor's and master's degrees from DePaul University, and received a nursing diploma in 1946.

She was an assistant administrator at St. Catherine Hospital in East Chicago, Ind., St. Mary's Hospital in Superior, Wis., St. Mary's Hospital in East St. Louis, Ill., and St. Anne's Hospital in Chicago. She had been an administrator at St. Catherine and at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Chicago. She worked at Shriner's Children's Hospital in Portland, Ore., and then was an assistant executive director at Oak Park Hospital in Oak Park, Ill. She retired as director of nursing at Bond Nursing Home in Marble Hill.

Tenholder was a former member of Indiana Hospital Association, and member of Fellow of American College of Hospital Administrators, St. John, Apostle and Evangelist Church in Leopold, Legion of Mary Auxiliary, Ladies Sodality, and had been a Red Cross volunteer.

Survivors include four sisters, Agatha Debrock and Juliana Elfrink of Leopold, Rosalia Elfrink of Belleville, Ill., and Mary Vandeven of Marble Hill, Mo.

She was preceded in death by a brother.

Friends may call at Liley Funeral Home in Marble Hill from 4 to 8 p.m. today. Parish prayers and Knights of Columbus rosary will be at 7.

Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. John, Apostle and Evangelist Church. The Rev. Bill Huggins will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
