Leo "Pete" Poe, 85, of Jackson died Wednesday, May 4, 2005, at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau.
He was born Feb. 8, 1920, in Jackson, son of Jesse Marvin and Lula Maud Cavaner Poe. He and Marjorie Lorraine Blumer were married Feb. 14, 1941. She died Jan. 12, 1997.
Poe was an ironworker, retiring from Jackson Excavating Co. in 1984. He was a member of New McKendree United Methodist Church, Altenthal-Joerns American Legion Post 158 in Jackson, VFW Post 3838 in Cape Girardeau, St. Louis Ironworkers Local 396 and charter member of Jackson Elks Lodge 2652.
He was a technical sergeant with the U.S. Army during World War II.
Survivors include a son, David "Pete" Poe of Cape Girardeau; two daughters, Betty Henry and Emily Tuschhoff of Jackson; a brother, J.W. "Bill" Poe of Jackson; a sister, Mary Smith of Jackson; eight grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a sister and a grandchild.
Friends may call at Cracraft-Miller Funeral Home from 4 to 8 p.m. today. An American Legion service will be held at 7, followed by an Elks service at 7:30.
The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Jimmy Corbin officiating. Burial will be in Russell Heights Cemetery.
