PERRYVILLE, Mo. -- Leo E. Martens, 94, of Perryville died Monday, Dec. 13, 2004, at Perry County Nursing Home.
He was born May 7, 1910, in Perry County, son of August and Caroline Hoog Martens. He and Olinda Huber were married July 25, 1933. She died Aug. 27, 1980. He and Odelia "Deets" DePauw Buerck were married May 5, 1990.
Martens was a farmer. He was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, Holy Name Society, Farm Bureau, original member of Perry County Wildlife Chapter, was a 4th Degree member of Knights of Columbus and an American Legion booster.
Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Doris Keppel of Florissant, Mo., Carol Carter of Lohmann, Mo.; two sons, William "Bill" and Richard "Dick" Martens of Perryville; a stepdaughter, Shirley Fadler of St. Peters, Mo.; a stepson, Norbert Buerck of Brandon, Miss.; a brother, Joseph Martens of Perryville; a sister, Ida Esselman of Perryville; 15 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; eight stepgrandchildren; and 13 great-stepgrandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, two sisters, a grandson and a great-grandson.
Friends may call at Young and Sons Funeral Home from 4:15 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, and Thursday from 6:30 to 11 a.m. The wake will be at 7:15 p.m. Wednesday. The rosary will be recited at 10 a.m. Thursday.
Funeral Mass will be held at 11:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Vincent de Paul Church, with the Rev. Kevin Fausz officiating. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery.
