SIKESTON -- Leo L. Schade, 81, of Sikeston, formerly of Jackson, died Wednesday, Nov. 27, 1991, at the Missouri Delta Medical Center in Sikeston.

He was born Jan. 3, 1910, son of Conrad and Mary Schade of Jackson.

On July 6, 1941, he married Hontas Lee of Sikeston. She survives

Other survivors are one daughter, Mary Lee Short, Kentfield, Calif.; three brothers, Herbert H. Schade of Joplin, Clarence C. Schade of Cape Girardeau and Gilbert G. Schade of St. Louis County; and two grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by three brothers and one sister.

Schade was the editor and publisher of the Cape County Post of Jackson from 1925 until 1962.

He served as vice president and president of the SEMO Press Association in 1948 and 1949, and served as treasurer and vice president of the Missouri Press Association in 1958 and 1959.

He was also postmaster for the city of Jackson for one a one half years. He was a member of the Jackson Chamber of Commerce and co-sponsored the bond issue to acquire the Trail of Tears State Park.

In 1937, he accepted an honorary assignment with the National Boy Scout Jamboree in Washington, D.C. He was one of four feature writers on the staff.

He was a member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Jackson and later of the Concordia Lutheran Church in Sikeston.

On April 1, 1962., he sold the newspaper and moved to Sikeston. He worked at the Sikeston Daily Standard from 1963 to 1976 as a staff writer and photographer.

Funeral service will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. at Concordia Lutheran Church with the Rev. Robert Kriete officiating.

Friends may call today from 5 to 9 p.m. at the Crews Welsh and Ponder Funeral Home in Sikeston. Burial will be in the Russell Heights Cemetery in Jackson.
