Leo J. Bohnert, 68, of Cape Girardeau died Monday, Sept. 19, 2011, at Saint Francis Medical Center.
He was born Oct. 13, 1942, in Biehle, Mo., to Otto and Corine Berkbigler Bohnert. He and Geraldine Leible were married Sept. 29, 1962, at Apple Creek, Mo.
Leo served in the U.S. Army.
He worked as a heavy equipment operator and truck driver more than 30 years. He just loved to be around people, talking and sharing. He was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church.
Survivors include his wife, Geraldine; mother, Corine Bohnert of Perryville, Mo.; two sons, Ron Bohnert and wife Sherry of Cape Girardeau, Shannon Bohnert and wife Madonna of Jackson; a brother, Elvis Bohnert of Biehle; four grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his father and a sister, Lunette Geringer.
Friends may call 4 to 8 p.m. today at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home. Parish prayers will be at 7, with rosary following.
The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Vincent de Paul Church, with the Rev. David Hulshof officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be given to St. Vincent de Paul Capital Campaign Fund.
