Lennert Vernon Schmidt passed away Wednesday, April 14, 2010, while at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Memphis, Tenn.
He was born in 1927 at Pocahontas. He attended Zion Lutheran Parochial School in Pocahontas and Jackson High School. He and Marie Holloway were married in 1955.
He served in Japan during World War II.
Schmidt settled in Memphis in 1948. He worked at Kimberly Clark about 13 years. He began selling Rawleigh products in 1960 and expanded his business for the next several decades. In 1976 he and his wife bought the Standard Disinfectant chemical business.
He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Memphis more than 60 years.
In February 2010 he moved into The Highlands of Memphis. After a heart attack in April, he passed away while at the VA Hospital in Memphis.
Survivors include his wife, Marie of Memphis; a sister, Lavern Wachter of Jackson; and a brother, Earl Schmidt of Port Charlotte, Fla.
A memorial service will be held Sunday at Trinity Lutheran Church, 210 Washington Avenue, in Memphis, (phone 901-525-1056). Interment will be in the Columbarium at Trinity Church.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be sent to Trinity Church in Memphis.
