Lena Belle Brogan (Lena Belle Twaddell) passed away June 20, 2002.

She was born Nov. 16, 1911, in Dade County, Mo. She was the wife of the late Dr. Micheal P. Brogan of Benton, Mo., and daughter of the late Lloyd and Frances Twaddell of Arcola, Mo.

She was predeceased by her brother, Loren; sisters Mary, Retha and Katherine.

She is survived by a sister, Loretta Holder of Albuquerque, N.M.; stepsons, Micheal P. Brogan and wife, Paula, of Middleburg, Fla., Patrick Brogan and wife, Rose, of Largo, Fla.; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Brogan graduated summa cum laude from Southeast Missouri State University. She was in WAAC from 1942-46. She served in World War II in the administrative offices of the Supreme Headquarters in England and France for two years, where she attained the rank of captain and received the Bronze Star.

She was commander of the Kansas City Women's Corps for a year. She was the WAAC's staff director in Norfolk, Va., for a year. She was also administrator for the VA Office in St. Louis.

Mrs. Brogan was administrator for Cape Girardeau Osteopathic Hospital from 1948-52. She moved to Benton, Mo., in 1952 where she started the first Girl Scout troop in Scott County. She continued to live there until 1993.

She was the secretary of Scott County Selective Service for three years. She taught social studies to juniors and seniors at Sikeston High School. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Cape Girardeau 63 years, where she was active in women's groups and also a church elder.

She was an avid golfer and sports enthusiast and a big Missouri U Tiger fan.

Memorial service by the Rev. Paul Kabo will be held Monday, June 24, 2002, at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home at 2 p.m.

Visitation will be held for one hour before service, with graveside service immediately following for family only at Cape County Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the First Presbyterian Church Renovation Fund, P.O. Box 477, Cape Girardeau, Mo. 63702.
