Lelia Smothers

Lelia "Jeri" Smothers, 79, of Cape Girardeau died Wednesday, April 28, 2004, at St. Francis Medical Center.

She was born Sept. 23, 1924, in Advance, Mo., daughter of Samuel H. and Rosa F. Christian McLain. She and John T. Smothers were married June 19, 1943, in Port Arthur, Texas.

Mrs. Smothers was a member of Cape First Assembly of God Church.

Survivors include her husband; two sons, Dennis Dale Smothers of Poplar Bluff, Mo., Howell J. Smothers of Cape Girardeau; three grandchildren, Jason and Rodney Smothers of Poplar Bluff, Heather Soohon of Cape Girardeau; and four great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Vermon McLain.

Friends may call at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday.

The funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Cape First Church, with the Rev. Gary Brothers officiating. Burial will be in Cape County Memorial Park.
