BERTRAND -- Leland Harper, 70, of Bertrand, died Thursday, Sept. 5, 1991, at Missouri Delta Medical Center in Sikeston.

He was born April 19, 1921, in Maynard, Ark., son of Truman Monroe and Dixie B. Johnston Harper.

He lived in Bertrand since 1966, where he was a farmer. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

On Aug. 10, 1943, he married Willadean Templeton.

Survivors include his wife; five sons, Leland E. "Butch" and William Harper of Sikeston, Bobby Harper of East Prairie, James and Ricky Harper of Charleston; six daughters, Linda Curtis and Patricia Hosey of Collierville, Tenn., Eva Shaffer of Van Buren, Ark., Debbie Stewart of Sikeston, Barbara Harper of Bertrand, Mary Schulte of Galena, Ill.; two brothers, Hulen Harper of Germany, Weldon Harper of Pocohantas, Ark.; a sister, Idnell Connor of Lincoln, Ark., and 13 grandchildren.

A granddaughter, two brothers and a sister preceded him in death.

Friends may call after 5:30 p.m. today at McMikle Funeral Chapel in Charleston.

Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home. The Rev. Richard Combs will officiate, with burial in Harper Cemetery at Maynard.
