Lela R. Thompson, 86, of Jackson passed away Tuesday, June 30, 2009, at Monticello House.
She was born Jan. 24, 1923, in Perryville, Mo., daughter of Robert F. and Louisa Hilbert Dambach. She and Virgil Thompson were married Nov. 14, 1949. He passed away April 20, 2001.
Lela was a former member of Oak Ridge United Methodist Church.
Loving survivors include a son, Dale (Betty) Thompson of Biehle, Mo.; a stepdaughter, Gladys Nitsch of Jackson; a stepdaughter-in-law, Linda Thompson of Jackson; and a brother, Gilbert Dambach of Cape Girardeau.
Also a granddaughter, Jody Thompson of Biehle; seven stepgrandchildren, Bradley and Brian Thompson of Jackson, Brenda Gleason of St. Louis, Glenn Thompson of Oak Ridge, Donna Stovall of Jefferson City, Mo., Kevin Nitsch of Rochester, N.Y., Darla Hemmann of Chesterfield, Mo.; and 11 great-stepgrandchildren.
In addition to her loving husband, she was preceded in death by two stepsons, Glen H. Thompson and Nelson Thompson; and a sister, Virginia Zschille.
Graveside service will be at 9:30 a.m. Friday at Goshen Cemetery near Oak Ridge, with the Rev. Rodger Rice officiating.
McCombs Funeral Home in Jackson is in charge of arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Goshen Cemetery Fund.
