MOUND CITY, Ill. -- Lela E. Hayes George, 87, of Mound City died Monday, May 8, 2000, at Massac Memorial Hospital in Metropolis.
She was born Aug. 7, 1912, in Grand Chain, daughter of John and Lura Hall Hayes. She married Chellis George. He preceded her in death in 1987.
She was a member of the First Methodist Church in Mound City.
Survivors include two daughters, Roxie Freeman of Jacksonville, Fla., and Donna Kilgore of St. Louis, Mo.; six sons, Darrell George of Dowling Park, Fla., Garry George of Olmsted, Joel George of St. Louis, Mo., Mike George of Union City, Tenn., Edwin George of Mayfield, Ky., and Randy George of Mounds; two sisters, Pearl George of St. Petersburg, Fla., and Dora Basham of Louisville, Ky.; 21 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, a sister and three brothers.
Friends may call after 5 p.m. Wednesday at Barkett Funeral Home in Mound City.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home, with the Rev. R.E. George and Dr. Larry L. Potts officiating. Burial will be at Cypress-Masonic Cemetery in Cypress.
